Thanks for the provocative article. It is very true Deckers is strong arming and if you look back into the history off UGG Australia you will see that when Deckers took over UGG Australia they started off with the big legal actions to protect the UGG Australia name. I have been doing SEO for a site selling UGG Australia products for about 8 years now and what I started seeing sometime last year was an explosion in sites selling non UGG Australia product but making it appear that they where. And to your point of SEO techniques we are not allowed to have a domain name with the word ugg in it in any way shape or form but the counterfeit sites do not have this rule and if you know anything about SEO you know that having the search term in your domain name is king. Also if the SEO market your working in has very few sites with the actual search term in it you will most likely dominate that search in google. That is what happened to these sites selling non UGG Australia footwear is they dominated the search results partially because they had ugg in their domain name but also because they where using some known black hat SEO techniques to come up fast. If you take some time to go through some of these so called counterfeit UGG sites that have ugg in the domain name you can start to see similarities in the designs and checkout process. So you can tell there is something strange going on.

So any way to try and wrap up yes Deckers is strong arming some sites with the DMCA removals but the majority of the removed sites are actually harmfull and they are protecting consumers from getting them taken down. Because what I have seen is when people try to buy from these sites with ugg in the domain name is that they are lucky to even get a pair of boots from them and if they do the quality of boots is terrible and there is no way to contact any kind of customer service. So overall it is a good thing Deckers is handling the situation because it was rampant and who else was going to manage that? Of course there will be some collateral damage when trying to discern who is legit and who is not but the course of action is to remove any and all sites with ugg in the domain name.

One last thing to touch on Failed SEO Strategy is that the site UGG Austrailia . com already came up number one for search terms involving the word ugg or uggs so they really didn't need help with that and in reality if google search was doing a good job shouldn't the Manufacturer of a product be the first result? It is us the resellers of the UGG Australia product that are getting most hurt by all this. We can not have ugg in our domain name and we are getting bumped of the first pages of google search by all of these sites with no regards to rules. It is always seems easier to win by cheating but I am hoping that in the long run the white knights will prevail.

Hi Rheace,

The tracker will retrieve results each time you open it. If you want to store past data, you'll need to write a little script that runs the function and logs it into a separate cell.

Thank you for posting this. Most people do not know that UGG Australia, owned by American company Decker, has their own boots made in China, not Australia or America, CHINA! This wouldn't be an issue except, they were having everyone's search results removed from Google search results stating, and I have written proof, that the web publisher was selling and/or promoting, counterfeit boots made in China! Wow!

What most wealthy American consumers who purchase UGG products do not know is that UGG Australia, yea, the American company, was doing this and thereby destroying mom and pop affiliates in America and beyond. You know, the little at home business writes about UGG boots and places a link to the product on their site and then they make a percentage. Yes, Deckers, UGG Australia was turning everyone of them in based on the Digital copyright law and stating they were promoting counterfeit UGGs when in fact, the UGGS, the majority of UGG products that is that were being promoted on those sites, were ads run by Google! Google Adwords and Adsense were displaying the UGG ads on the sites, so what Decker, UGG Australia was saying in their complaint to Google, using the Digital copyright law, was that Google was displaying counterfeit UGG products. Yep, Google was removing sites from it's own search results because Decker, UGG Australia, was accusing Google of selling and promoting through those other sites, counterfeits!!!

Wow, someone is finally catching on to the dirty tricks of Decker! The wonderful American company pretending by their name alone, UGG Asutralia, that their boots are made in Australia! Yep, you guessed it!!! UGG Australia, Decker, their boots are made in CHINA!!!!

Wow, think before you buy! Buy genuine Australian UGG boots or something made by American workers, not Decker UGG Australia, boots made in China!
